Step One: Architects, Designers and Builders O My!
Sometimes the relationship between Architects, Designers, and Builders can be contentious, but the reality is, each one of these roles can play a very important part in a successful project.
Any time you are building a new home or expanding the footprint of an existing home, you definitely need an architect. A good architect knows how to listen and knows when to push back, they can see the finished project just from a simple sketch on a napkin. They know how to give you a magnificent plan while giving the builder a detailed road map on how to get there.
Designers are an invaluable resource when considering renovating within the existing square footage. They understand layout and flow, they know how a house should feel. A good designer will be worth every penny and give your renovation clear parameters and direction.
If you have a very large project or a lot of custom details, you might need both an Architect and a Designer!
Whichever direction or combination you choose, make sure you select someone or a team you trust and that you feel is easy to communicate with, they will be intimately involved in your home for quite some time.
